What is it?
Glass stairs, stair halls or glass staircases are becoming more and more common. The Glass Stair Company use glass components for glass staircase systems; i.e. glass stair treads and glass balustrade infill panels to make an average house look contemporary and modern, Staircases with Glass Balustrades are the most popular.
Glass stair treads are usually manufactured using a combination of 10mm float glass and 25mm float glass laminated together. A non slip surface can be achieved in several ways, the most popular being an all over sandblast and Ritec coat finish. Another popular anti-slip preference is for grooves to be cut into the front edge of the tread. By using special architectural glass which is chemically treated, tempered and laminated it is possible to get the required strength to hold the weight of itself and the people walking on it.
